The Room: Medium sized and bright. Fits a double bed and a table with plenty of space to spare. One whole wall is a window but the blinds keep the light out when needs be. The House: Very unique. The landlord is a builder so every detail has a bit of a story. The decking, for example, comes from the old bleachers of Carlton FC stadium. The shop downstairs used to sell 70's antiques. We've installed an old traffic light in the living room. More of this kind of nonsense is most welcome. The communal area is a big open plan section on the second floor. The living room looks out on the roof garden and has big windows that slide open fully. The property is accessed via the laneway around the back of Queensberry St so it feels extremely private. Big 6 burner gas cooker. Large fridge. We've turned one of our two BBQs into a pizza oven. The Area: Right outside the 57 tram. 2 minutes walk from Errol Street and a badass rock bar called the Town Hall very close by. 15 minute walk from the Queen Vic Markets so frequenting there becomes a bit of a ritual. There's an abundance of nice cafes seconds away. The gym on Errol Street is pretty convenient and the bottle shop has decent beers and wines. Sosta Cuchina is also nearby and this is generally recognised as one of the better Italian places in Melbourne. Our outgoing friend and flatmate would walk to Flinders Street to get the train to Oakleigh every day just because she loved it so much. If you use the tram tracker app you basically never wait for public transport while living here.
