Hi, I have a fully furnished room (QS bed; cupboard) for one person that is AVAILABLE from 12 Jan 2018. The maximum people in the house is two - there are only two bedrooms. I have been away often for extended periods (I am a full-time research student) but I should be around more from now. My house is a RENOVATED WEATHERBOARD close to Queanbeyan CBD. There is a lovely garden and back deck. Gas heating and cooking and solar hot water (with a manual electric booster) and NBN limited wireless and 4G. There is off-street parking for two smaller cars and on-street parking is time unlimited. There is public transport a short walk to town (less than 10 minutes) and Queanbeyan railway station is a 15 minute walk. And if you work in Canberra city, there is a park-and-ride just across the border in Fyshwick. Or if you are into cycling there is bicycle path into Canberra that swings past the park-and-ride. You've got to be willing to do your bit in the garden - THIS IS ESSENTIAL! OR you will need to pay to have someone do it. You must be a clean and tidy person to live with and actually know how to clean (you'd be suprised...!). I prefer a vegetarian household - i.e. I do not eat meat, fish or poultry - but if you do eat meat then you are welcome to cook meat on the gas bbq that is undercover just outside the kitchen door. I do not want more furniture brought into the house - the house is fully furnished and well equipped. Bills would be shared with my share being based on a pro-rata basis for when I am there i.e. if I am away for extended periods and not just a weekend or week or two on hols. No animals/pets sorry even though I occasionally have my kelpie come and stay. So you will have to like dogs. She is quiet and well trained. And I really do not care whether you are a 'professional' or not - used alone, I find the term pretentious. I am much happier knowing about your interests :-) rather than how you earn a living (and yes, I know they could be one and the same...). The property is in Hackett (border of Ainslie and Dickson) and is right on the bike path, a 20-25 minute cycle straight into civic or 2 min walk to the bus stop, and 5 min cycle to the Dickson, Hackett or Ainslie shops. We have a spacious backyard - perfect for summer activities, a newly renovated kitchen (6 stoved gas cooktop and a huge oven), and a gorgeous room in the back ("the cabin") that gets sunlight all day and is perfect for reading in the sun or general napping. The room can fit a queen-sized bed and comes with a built-in wardrobe and ceiling fans. The house has ducted heat/ air-conditioning and is ready for the Canberra extremes. Most of the time the temperature stays quite moderate thanks to the double glazed windows!

About the house: It is a cosy and sunny house, with off-street parking, three bedrooms, a bathroom (both a bath and a shower), separate toilet, reverse cycle air-con, dishwasher, and bathroom heat lamps. There is also a big backyard with lots of fruit trees, a big organic veggie garden, a garage and bike shed, as well as a large front garden. About the area: Mount Ainslie is behind our house and you can walk up it via a ridge that also runs along in front of the house, with lots of pretty birds and kangaroos. We are in between Dickson and Ainslie shops (a 5 min ride either direction, or you can take the bus), and there’s a bus that goes to the city/ANU directly opposite our house. Otherwise, the bike path is just a few metres from our house, is a pretty ride through the wetlands and takes about 10-15 minutes to get to Civic. The suburb has nice wide streets and is a relaxing haven from the city, while also feeling very close to everything.

Our home is across the road from Mt Ainslie nature reserve and is a short walk to local shops, quick cycle or reasonable walk to the city and close access to buses. We have a warm and friendly homey home. We have interests in art, environment, politics, movement, self-development and cultural exchange etc. We tend not to watch much tv and would probably not be suitable for someone who is a large watcher. We value direct and thoughtful communication with each other and would expect that from people staying. We also value everyone contributing to keeping things around the house functional and the communal spaces clean and tidy :) We have two rooms going. The first, which is available from Dec 22, is is a large furnished spacious downstairs room. There is a comfy bed and loungesuite, private toilet, modest kitchenette (kettle and toaster provided) and direct access to back courtyard. There is central heating in the main house which we use thoughtfully however it doesn't extend downstairs so be prepared for a bit of chill, which is delightful over summer! The second room, available from Jan 7 is at the other end of the scale, and is cosy and quite central to the main part of the house. It's quite a sweet room which has been loved by all it's inhabitants however is best suited to someone who is a solid sleeper as sound-proofing in the room isn't great.
