I'm a 57-year-old man who, a few weeks ago, relocated to The Big Island after 9 years on Kangaroo Island.
I am employed full time in Management with OTR and also enrolled in post-grad work at Flinders on track to a PhD in Psychology.
Left to myself and with unlimited funds, I would buy a commercial/industrial manufacturing space, build out an open floor plan, postmodern flat with a commercial kitchen, and use the remaining space to build guitars and restore cars. Have not found that perpetual money machine to date, so here I am on Flatmates. ;)
NB: The Flinders run, if all goes to plan is a 6 year gig, so I intend to be here for a while.
As someone who works with the public in a rapid, high volume, small transaction environment and as someone that Jung would have termed an intuitive introvert, home is a refuge. I prefer peace and quiet at home, although I am no prude, nor am I antisocial. Let's just say that my frat house days are behind me.
Free time finds me reading, cooking, tinkering with guitars, catching up with friends, volunteering, and doing what I can to help out where I can. No pool, no pets, no mortgage, no kids, no missus, no problem.
20 years in the wine game - 15 of them making the stuff. A few years on KI making wine, tour driving, working at Drakes, Caltex, OTR, in the sheds, and as the Principal of a boutique commercial cleaning concern.
I do my best to live a values-based life, get on well with most people, believe that empowering people to be the best that they can be is important, & am happy to have some of my earnings go to those that need a hand or steady supoort through Canberra. That said, I also expect the capable to have a go.
My personality is one of relaxed intensity. Everyone is allowed to be who they are, within reason. Respect, manners, and a smile matter.
Finally, I am Australian-by-choice having grown up in California. I speak Spanish without a drop of Latin blood in me - Los Angeles really is far northern Mexico. Make a wicked Chile Verde as well as Chili con Carne. Know my way around a smoker and BBQ. Am a morning person. Value coffee and diesel. Can spin a pizza, yadda yadda.
My house vibes are clean, chill, and perfect for someone who values their freedom and independence and who is not afraid to engage in meaningful conversation now and then.
