Hi! My name is Gabriela, and I am originally from Washington, D.C. I’m currently in Australia on the one year work and holiday visa. I am a traveler - I’ve been to 37 countries, and most recently just arrived from backpacking in Africa for 4 months! I’m in Cairns for a photography diving internship, which is expected to take 6 months.
I am an ecologist! I graduated 2 years ago from the University of California, Berkeley with degrees in Ecology and Climate Science. I have committed the last 2 years to traveling while working in environmental research, ecological fieldwork, volunteering, and community development work. Travel, for me, is an opportunity to gain experience in a variety of ecological spaces to someday tackle environmental challenges with a worldly perspective. I also love to meet people from all over the world while traveling. I am a people person! My friends describe me as someone who can be friends with anyone, and who is very intentional with getting to know people. I am outgoing, outdoorsy, and love any outings that involve hiking, camping, and spending time in nature.
I am extremely clean and organized, and very respectful of shared spaces (I have lived and worked in so many shared spaces, ranging from hostels of up to 80 people, cooperative housing of 150 people, research stations in the rainforest, and more…). I am a very respectful and aware housemate when it comes to cleanliness, noise, and shared responsibilities.
