I wouldn’t call myself a social butterfly, but after living in one mixed dorm and three share houses here in Australia, I can confidently say I make a pretty good flatmate. Here’s why:

1. I don’t smoke or drink.
2. I’m happy to follow the household routines and help keep the common areas clean and tidy.
3. I don’t bring friends over for parties.
4. I don’t have pets, but I’m totally fine living with them.
5. Most importantly, I respect the people I live with. That can mean being mindful of noise, keeping shared spaces clean, or simply recognising that everyone has their own routines and habits. As the new person moving in, I do my best to fit into the existing flow of the house rather than disrupt it. If there’s ever anything I overlook, I’d really appreciate a gentle heads-up so I can adjust. All in all, I’m keen to help create a home where we respect each other and live comfortably together.

So far, my share house experiences in Australia have been really positive. I’ve made friends out of flatmates and created plenty of good memories together. At the end of the day, if you’re just after a quiet and reliable tenant to share the rent, I can definitely do that — but if we click, I’d love to be both your flatmate and your friend.
