Quirky, retro, eclectic and hygge would be the best way to describe this house. I have lived here for 5 years. Last two housemates were both on WHV. House is super cute, comfortable and already set up. You would just need to move in, as there is a desk in there, clothes rack, lamp and a double futon bed which also folds into a sofa. I love the house and the area. It’s close to everything and I love that in winter I can leave the house three minutes before a tram arrives and make it. I’ve lived here long enough to stop for chats with people when I pop out. I feel safe at all the odd hours I come and go, as well as when I walk the dogs. Come and live with my two lovely, affectionate hounds and me! There is no tv in the house. Nor any plans to get one for the lounge room. I thought I would let you know, as this may be a deal breaker for some people.
Hi there, We have a sweet house in the perfect location on Brunswick Street, it is a superbly refurbished Victorian terrace the the route 11 tram stopping right in front of the house, delivering you into the City in just 10 minutes. The front downstairs bedroom is available and is fully-furnished. The house features four bedrooms and two bathrooms split across two levels. This generous sized room features hardwood floors, original Victorian fireplace and double glazed windows. Also, there is a large bathroom downstairs with in-floor spa bath for your use. Further down the hall is a spacious open plan living area has folding doors opening into the courtyard terrace, which has an inbuilt gas BBQ, and space for your bike accessible through rear lane. The modern kitchen includes European appliances, espresso coffee and full kitchen requisites. We also have a basement set up with gym equipment, for the sporty-types. Very neat and clean (professionally cleaned once a fortnight). Courtyard at the rear of the house, which gets the amazing afternoon sun! Less than a 10 minute walk up the road is the local supermarket, three local pubs within 3 min walk, and a cafe and the beautiful Edinburgh gardens directly across the street. We have found that sharing the cost of common services and consumables works well (coffee, spices, cleaning detergents and such). The layout of the house is perfect for sharing with 3 people. 2 available large rooms, one with balcony, the other with wall to wall mirrored built-in robes. Separate dining and living room. We are located in a great little pocket of Fitzroy Nth. The Park St bike path/Capital City Trail is at the end of our street. Nearest train station is Rushall Station (450m), No 11 Tram on St Georges Rd (350m), 86 Tram on Queens Parade (800m). We are walking distance to both Terra Madre and Piedemontes for your market needs, and a short ride away if you prefer the Colesworth juggernauts. You are also a pleasantly short stroll to Edinburgh Gardens for lazy summertime beverages (it’s theoretically rolling distance) or cold miserable strolling in the winter. The house has 4 bedrooms, a living room with fireplace, a library study, a large kitchen with dining table (where we like to share food and entertain friends), upstairs bathroom, backyard toilet and shower and a shed/studio/workspace. We have a vegie garden that keeps up a supply of leafy greens and a few herbs We also have a worm farm, and compost bin where all our food waste goes, and also a separate cat poo compost/worm farm facility that one flatmate in particular is very proud of. There are plants dotted all over the place, many which are in a juvenile state - but come warmer weather they should go nuts. There is excellent separation between bedrooms and living areas, particularly for a terrace. Sometimes there's festivities happening in the kitchen and you would be in your bedroom and have no idea (but not because we haven’t invited you). Our terrace has experienced a number of improvised renovations in from the 70s and 80s so it really is the best of the 1880s, 1970s and 1980s and has a lived in, character filled vibe. Our kitchen has had an overdose of wood panelling and looks a bit like a sauna or a galley on a vessel. Like everything in the universe, it is slowly falling apart, but we have a good relationship with our agent and any issues that pop up get sorted quite quickly. It's all very homely though. We have one air conditioner in the living room which we sometimes turn on when it gets to those 45 degree days and we gather around it and worship it. We have a chore wheel that gets spun once a month. We like to keep the house clean and tidy, and the chore wheel helps keep us on the straight and narrow. The house is furnished with most things, but our departing flatmate will be taking the library/study table with her, as well as a microwave. Everything else we have. Much of it has come from Street Treasure, which is a source of great pride. We share all bills equally, which is managed on a kitty, reconciled monthly. We also share the essentials: cleaning products, toilet paper, salt/pepper/oil/soy sauce, etc. Internet: $17.50pcm Everything else: approximately $80pcm, depending on the time of year (more in the winter, less in the summer).
