Hi. My first name is Anthony, but I’m known by my second name - Paul. I’m an active 64 year old currently working an average of three days a week as a Driver/Tour Guide. I also have access to my super, so I’m financially secure. My work is based in Williamstown Nth and it takes me anywhere from 45 mins to an hour or more to get there from my current home in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne, depending on my start time. I’ve long hankered to live by the coast again and figure now is the time, since it’s not going to take much longer to get to and from work from somewhere like Torquay than from where I’m presently at.
I’m looking for an unfurnished room in Torquay, Jan Juc, Ocean Grove or Barwon Heads. Provided we get along I’m after a long-term arrangement, but I’m happy to agree on a shorter trial period to start with. My budget is up to around the $300 a week mark, including bills. Ideally I’d like somewhere with off-street parking but that’s not necessarily a deal-breaker. Having my own bathroom would be a bonus but I’m happy to share.
I enjoy socialising with housemates on occasion, but prefer to look after myself as far as food prep and the like goes. I’ve lived in share houses for most of my adult life, so I’m very well house-trained. I always clean up in the kitchen as I go and will do my share of other household cleaning tasks without fuss.
As far as my age profile goes, I’m happy to share with younger people. I recently completed a degree at La Trobe University along with a cohort of people a lot younger than me. If anything, I reckon I get on better with millennials and Gen Zeds than with my own age group! I think it’s because I’ve always been curious, so I’ve never really become set in my ways. I see life as a never-ending learning experience, and I guess that helps keep me young at heart. Having said that, my partying days are well behind me. I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs. I’m not at all judgemental about any of that stuff as long as it doesn’t interfere with my life, and as long as there’s no smoking in the house (outside is fine).
I’m a keen amateur musician and have a background in children’s theatre, having worked as a professional actor/puppeteer for 15 years as part of a varied working life. I write and record songs and music on a computer-based system, but I’m very mindful of housemates when doing so, and happy to work at low volume or with headphones when required. As far as my other interests go, I’m an avid reader. I walk for at least an hour or so every day, and I’ll be spending a lot of free time at the beach. I don’t surf, but I love swimming and body surfing. I like my sport, in particular AFL, cricket and motorbike racing, but I’m no fanatic. I try to keep up with what’s happening in the world. However, like a lot of people right now, I’m pretty jaded by the current political landscape, and would prefer not to get caught up in endless political debates. I guess what I’m saying is that if you have passionate political views you feel compelled to share, I’m probably not going to be your ideal housemate. I’m also not religious; in fact, I’m about as spiritual as a house brick. I have nothing but respect for other people’s religious or spiritual beliefs. All I ask is that people respect my lack thereof in return.
