Hi! I’m Vien (she/her). I call Jakarta (Indonesia) and Hamburg (Germany) home. I am in my mid 30s. I studied marine biology and have been working full time in the past few years, but I will soon move to Wollongong to start my PhD at the UoW. The plan is to relocate from Hamburg during the first week of August 2026. My German side really enjoys planning ahead, so here I am already setting up a profile months in advance.
I have lived in shared flats for about 18 years in Germany, so I am very familiar with the art of communicating, compromising, and occasionally negotiating whose turn it is to take out the trash :) I value cleanliness in shared spaces, open communication, and reliability. At the same time, I am quite flexible when it comes to organizing chores. We can have a cleaning schedule or simply figure out a system that works well for everyone.
Ideally I would love to live with one to three flatmates who are roughly in the 28 to 40 age range. I am bi/queer, so being respectful and open minded is very important to me. Racism, homophobia, sexism, or other forms of discrimination are absolute deal breakers. It might sound a bit serious, but for me it is simply the bare minimum for a comfortable home. I also would not feel comfortable living with someone who is strongly anti vaccination.
One practical thing about the room itself. Since I am moving from Germany and only plan to stay in Wollongong for the duration of my PhD, I would really prefer a furnished bedroom. I am not sure it makes sense for me to invest in a bed and furniture for a temporary stay. Ideally the room would also have air conditioning and be at least around 12 m² so there is enough space to feel comfortable and not live like a suitcase with a pillow.
Location wise it would be great if the place is within about 30 minutes door to door from the Innovation Campus at UoW. At the moment I do not have a car and I am not sure yet whether I will get one once I arrive. I also do not have a driving licence yet, but maybe Australia will finally motivate me to get one.
In my free time I enjoy eating good Asian food, visiting museums, watching movie, learning languages, and playing drums. The drumming might be on hold for a while since I am not bringing my drums with me and I am not planning to buy a new set right away. Honestly, I am also curious to see how my hobbies might change once I move to Australia. Maybe I will suddenly become an outdoorsy person :D
I enjoy talking about culture, politics, and what is happening in the world, but I am just as happy with relaxed evenings watching movies or cooking together. I also completely understand the need to decompress and do your own thing after a long day. I do cook meat, so it would be good if that is not an issue.
Overall I am hoping for a friendly and relaxed home where people respect each other’s space but also enjoy the occasional chat, shared meal, or movie night.
Since I am still in Germany, I would be very happy to have a Zoom call first to get to know each other. My current plan is to arrive around August 2026, but I am flexible with the move in date. September or October could also work well, especially if we have the chance to meet in person first once I arrive.
If this sounds like a good match, I would love to hear from you 😊
