Hi there, I’m an independent 52-year-old professional (and soon to be PhD candidate) working at Curtin University, looking for a relaxed, mature share house. I don't fit the 'typical' demographic profile—I've never married, have no kids/dependents, and lead a highly active, frugal, low-overhead lifestyle; I don't own a car or a TV, and I cycle everywhere. As a result I have a few bikes for different purposes (shopping, longer rides or fast rides for example), some of these can be locked up outside undercover, some need to be stored securely, either in a locked shed or garage, or in my own living space (these are spotlessly clean of course). I could also arrange storage with family if the bikes are an issue. The bonus is that I have no car, so I won't need a parking space!
I’m clean and tidy and enjoy my own space and generally being outdoors. I also respect house boundaries, but am always up for a friendly chat over coffee or wine - I'm quite sociable, but not really a party guy and prefer early morning rides to late nights. I eat plant based (but I'm not one of those annoying judgemental, militant types), and so generally eat self-prepared meals at home. I'm happy to cook together if that's what you're into, but just as happy to do my own thing. I'm an animal lover, so if you have pets (especially cats) then that's not an issue for me and I would also be willing to help out with care and walking duties, but I have no plans for pets of my own. Non-smoker and will only consider smoke-free homes.
I have just moved back to Perth after more than 20 years abroad, 4 years in China and the rest in Germany, so I'm a bit of a Perth newbie, despite having grown up here. I do have family and a bunch of friends here, so I have my own support network in place and would be fully self sufficient. For what it's worth, I also speak fluent German.
Looking for a room in the Vic Park, Queens Park, Como, or South Perth corridors to keep my cycle commute easy and to be close to my folks, but I'm totally capable of up to a 20km commute each way for the right place.
Financially secure with a professional job at Curtin Uni and with decent savings. Rent is always top priority and would be setup as a standing order via my bank.
Let me know if I sound like a good fit for your home, happy to meet for a chat to see if we click. I'm also happy to team up with someone with similar needs to apply for places together.
