Description of the home
One room available in the upstairs residence of a charming 90 year old Queenslander. Located a block away from the Broadwater and parks, and a five minute drive to Main Beach. Original Railway cottage with enclosed veranda's, a garage and backyard, all renovated and beautifully maintained.
It is a two bedroom, one large bath house with a clawfoot tub. Features a spacious, updated kitchen with a gas stove, island, a dishwasher, and a fridge (a second fridge in the garage if you like to keep things separate). Also includes an indoor laundry and covered line, plus a back deck and a low-maintenance, private yard with lots of shade from the rainforest trees. I use the front enclosed space mainly for storage and study/work area- I think it was once an open veranda so it's nice additional space but oddly shaped. Your room opens via French doors onto the back deck (see images).
The house has reverse-cycle air conditioning in the bedrooms, lounge and office area, though we also have an ocean breeze. I have a television, lounge, kitchenware, washing machine and most common space furniture.
Please note: I have a small dog (in pictures), Willow. She's a Shih Tzu x Poodle. She's 8 years old so sleeps a lot these days and has lived with two cats and a Kelpie over the years, so she's used to being around other animals, although she prefers smaller dogs her size to play with. She does have a good warning bark and gets excited when we come home, but normally just likes to hang out wherever humans are and sleep. There is a fully fenced yard and a dog park along the Broadwater about 5 mins walk.
There is space for a car in the garage, so you have a covered, secure space to park and 1/2 a garage of shared storage. I ride a bike so just need to be able to slip it down the side. The ground floor is a small podiatry practice, currently open every second week, that has use of the driveway for patient parking between 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday. There is an amicable relationship and we've not experienced any problems gaining access to the garage when needed. Aside from the garage, which has internal stairs to the first floor, there is an external entry to the street.
About me:
I've just turned 30 and work full time at a school. Most of the time I keep to myself, I like reading, documentaries and watching TV/movies (studied these at Uni), taking the dog on walks along the Broadwater, HGTV and Op shopping. A pilates studio opened up around the corner so I've been doing that for a couple years, and I want to start Yoga as well. I've also started studying full-time again and will be doing so for a few years, so I like to keep it quiet at home on weeknights (the neighbours also appreciate this). I ride a bike or walk most places, so living close to everything is very convenient. I like to have a calm environment (which for me includes plants, art etc) to come home to after being with kids all day, pretty boring really!
The house has character but creaky floorboards so with previous roommates we've tried to be done with common spaces, mainly the kitchen off your room, on work nights by 9.30ish so we don't keep each other awake. I'll do my part to keep the house neat and tidy and want someone who respects their environment enough to do the same. Nothing crazy, but who likes a dirty house?
Looking for:
A single tenant who is clean, quiet and respectful. I'd like someone who understands that being part of a sharehouse means everyone doing their part to make it a home. Happy to cook together and chat but also content to stick on a podcast and do my own thing. I'm 90% vegetarian so cooking for myself is normally how it goes. Wouldn't mind someone who does their own thing during the week but wants to watch a movie on the weekend, take the dog/s for a walk together, go out and eat, etc every now and then.
You need to be able to provide references and be able to pay rent. Minimum six month lease. No smoking and would prefer a female but it's not a dealbreaker, I've lived with men and women. LGBTQIA+ friendly.
Current roommate is looking to move in with his girlfriend but not urgently, so move in date is flexible but sooner rather than later preferable.
Bills and expenses
There is Wi-Fi, we will split the bill for that (monthly), and electricity and gas (quarterly). On average, electricity is about $200 pp, and gas about $60 pp every three months. The landlord pays for water rates.
The house is centrally located.
- 7 minutes walk: Australia Fair Shopping Centre, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast and Southport Tram station (which will take you to Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Griffith University/Hospital).
- Less than 5 minutes walk: Broadwater Parklands and the Aquatic Centre and gym, lots of walking and bike paths, parks and a cafe.
- 1 minute walk: bus stop that will take you to Griffith University/Hospital in 10 minutes, Harbour Town Shopping Centre in 20 and Helensvale Rail in 30.
- 9 minutes drive: Griffith University Hospital and Campus.
- There are a dozen cafes and restaurants in a few minutes walking distance, plus op shops. Also nearby is the Southport Transit Centre (a Greyhound buses stop), corner store, chemist, dry cleaners, 24 hour gym, pilates studio, Asian supermarket, BWS and op shops.
