This house is perched up on Castle Hill, mere meters from the start of the Goat Track. It has a stunning view of Magnetic Island and receives a good sea breeze even on the hottest days in summer. It is an old house with quirky features that make it cheap yet full of character. The entire front of the house is lined with glass louvers meaning that air-conditioning would basically be impossible but the breeze makes up for it (most of the time!).
Best features include;
- Chicken coop with 4 hilarious and cute laying hens
- Wrap-around verandah that can be sectioned off to extend your room space for a study or sun-room
- Funny 1960s vibe kitchen with gas stove and all the other amenities
- Toilet that used to be an out-house meaning it has a view of the back garden, if you so choose, you can also close the door ;)
- Walking distance to the city centre, with bus lines, JCU city campus, restaurants and bars all close by
- Big, spacious living room without a TV. This is not a household for people that want to watch TV in communal spaces
Other details:
- we want somebody to take over my part on the lease, so a bond of $460 will be required
- other bills are split evenly (usually about $30-50 each per month for gas, internet and electricity)
- the available room is the smallest, hence its cheapness. But it has big built in cupboards and opens onto a verandah that can be claimed as an extension :)
Message me to come check it out!

Hi everyone, I'm moving out of this gorgeous share house on Castle Hill with a heavy heart because I am leaving town. This is a creative, fun-loving, eco-conscious and caring space to live in, and we hope the replacement will be open to familial vibes and willing to contribute positively through ongoing care of communal spaces, our chicken friends, and a peaceful yet stimulating environment with the best view in Townsville :)
You'll be living with 2 others - Jordan (30) and Alfonso (26)
Jordan is a rockstar of the local belly-dancing scene, originally from WA. An excellent cook and chicken mum, keeper of a beaut indoor plant collection, curious thinker and kind soul. She works semi-irregular hours as a dance teacher and for a local dance company.
Alfonso is here from Spain doing his PHD in marine biology and spends most of his time out of the house either at uni, doing and teaching latin dance, and practicing Jiu Jitsu. He is also an excellent cook and a very considerate and easy person to live with.
