Flatmates Secret Santa

If you got stuck with a dodgy gift from your work Secret Santa, your own flatmates SS is the time to make amends. Got a flatmate you don’t like? Never fear, you can use those funds to buy something for the house (which ultimately means buying something for yourself) #winner

It’s the end of the year and the house is getting prepared to head back home for the Christmas break. Despite the numerous Christmas parties you’ll be attending, it’s always nice to do something with your flatmates to celebrate (or drink away) the year that was. When living in a share house, your flatmates are your day-to-day family. Let’s be honest, even if you don’t like them, you’re pretty close. They see you semi-naked coming out of the shower, you see their clean knickers hanging on the clothesline, you’ve met their multiple partners and they know what you bought your mum for her birthday. Believe it or not, you guys are close.

So why not celebrate that closeness and buy them a gift this Christmas? If you live in a share house with multiple people, conduct your own little flatmates Secret Santa. If you get that annoying flatmate that you don’t like (you know the one that leaves their washing in the machine for four days), you can purchase them a gift for the house; that way it looks like you’re extending the olive branch but at least you benefit from the present (Christmas grinches take note).

See below our top Secret Santa gifts for your flatmates this year.

A Keep Cup

(Duh) If they don’t already have one of these, they’re missing out (and killing the world one little fish at a time). Also, you can always steal it if you are in need. Keep Cups start from $15.

Party survival kit

If your flatmate is likely to pull a Bridget Jones at their work Christmas party, maybe a nice little hamper full of goodies will help them navigate the next day’s regret. Fill a bag or a shoe box with party essentials: Berocca, Hydralite, Party Feet, Nurofen, band aids, pocket sized deodorant, mints etc. Be creative.

Bench top composter

We’re a big fan of these at Flatmates. Buy a bench top composter for the enviro in your house and their green heart will love you forever. It’s also a a good nudge if you want to encourage your flatmate to be more environmentally friendly. Our fave is Bokashi.

Food

image

Maybe you’re actually the worst flatmate and you’ve been the resident food thief this year? Whilst re-gifting all of the food you’ve stolen might be a stretch depending on your level of klepto, you could always start with a few packets of Tim Tams, Mi Goreng and a jar of Nutella. If the food theft has been outrageous, go that extra step and buy them an Uber Eats gift card.

Adopt a koala

image

Horrible bush fires have ravaged through NSW and QLD over the past month and have devastated much of our fuzzy babies’ habitat. Summer has only started and more fires are projected for the summer to come. Adopt a koala or make a donation to the WWF to help safeguard koalas from more danger (donations include equipment, bandages and supporting koala shelters).

Board games

image

Nothing brings a flatmates family together like a board game night. Whip out the brie and an Aldi El Toro vino, and you are in for a fab night. Our favourite board games are Articulate or Secret Hitler. We do not apologise for the arguments that will ensue.

Still stuck for ideas? Or low on cash? Just bake the house a cake and blast this song, you’ll be amazed at what joy sugar and Donna Summer will bring to your share house this Christmas.

Happy Feliz Navidad Flatmates! Keep an eye out for other Flatmates Chrissy blogs, coming your way as fast as St Nick slipping down a chimney.
