You’ve got beautiful beaches, amazing festivals, good wine and cheap rent, with beachside share house rooms going for as little as $200 a week. Radelaide is actually, well, rad.

Did you know Adelaide was named in the world’s top 10 most liveable cities just last week? As flabbergasted as you might be, this reflects the exceptional value Adelaide has among Australia’s capital cities and its more chill and laid back vibe in comparison with its eastern seaboard competitors.

As you’ll see, $250 (or less) gets you plenty of bang for your buck, as well as a plethora of options based on where and how you like to live.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Tucked between the beach and the city, this modern share house in Fulham Gardens has something for everyone. Only 2.5km from Henley Beach, and 8km from the CBD, your weekends are sorted with surf and city at your disposal and an easily accessible public transport system, just 200m from your door. With two separate lounge areas, big bedrooms, two bathrooms and plenty of outdoor entertaining space, this home is the ideal base for a professional who prefers to have a few housemates. WiFi is included in the weekly $220 rent, while bills are extra.

POOL DAYS

Good luck finding another property with its own pool for $200 per week. This recently renovated 1900’s gem at Norwood, just east of the Adelaide CBD, has much more going for it than just its location (although that 15-minute walk to the city is very appealing). The weekly rent includes all bills, Foxtel, unlimited internet and Netflix, but the star attraction is that backyard pool, which is your own private oasis in the summer months.

BEACH BABY

If your job is in the city but your heart isn’t, a room at this big beachside home could be a brilliant choice. Located at Port Noarlunga, and only a 35-minute commute to the CBD, it’s close enough for work but with all the trappings of a holiday weekender. If PT is your go-to mode of travel, you’re in luck with the bus stop less than 100m away and the train station at a 15-minute walk. For any Flinders Uni students, the bus is only a 20-minute commute. At only $210 per week, plus bills, the property comes with two separate (and generous) living spaces, modern furnishings, indoor theatre room and gorgeous covered backyard. Port Noarlunga has a relaxing seaside village feel about it, with many restaurants and cafes on offer, including local hot spot Beck’s Bakery.

THE VALUE VILLA

With a features list that includes high ceilings, large bedrooms with fireplaces, huge backyard, undercover parking, a chicken and a duck(!) and a location only five minutes from the city, you might expect to be paying big bucks for a room in this classic Mile End villa. But rent here is just $125 a week, marking it as one of the best value offerings in inner-city Adelaide. Less than a 10-minute walk to popular watering hole, the Wheatsheaf Hotel, and with a host of local cafes and eateries such as Loveon just around the corner, it’s your cheap ticket to a brilliant lifestyle. Extra points for environmentally friendly housemates.

LAKESIDE

The listing captures this West Lakes property perfectly: it feels “more like a holiday than suburbia.” Positioned quite literally on the water, with a gate that opens directly onto the lake, the townhouse is surrounded by parks and beaches, yet is very close to public transport and within walking distance of Westfield Shopping Centre. Sharing the property with only one other flatmate, a premium lifestyle is yours for only $250 per week, including bills.
