Looking for a Perth and/or Kalgoorlie base to transition to FIFO/DIDO resources and infrastructure construction work (as skilled labour non-trade). I've been 10 years at a logistics major in Sydney (current job, 50-84h/wk) and 4 years in food manufacturing (as industrial cleaner, machine operator, trade assist, QA lab tech, then night shift supervisor). On moving in I may be between Sydney (current/legacy job), Perth job search or FIFO work but will pay the rent continuously to establish the WA address. I'm in Perth now (May) on holiday: I drove over to explore the area, get set up and investigate opportunities/strategy.
You'll find me quiet, clean, and mostly absent at home. In Sydney/Wollongong over the last 20 years I've lived as a direct Tennant in several places, have lived in sharehouses and have run a sharehouse. Will suit easy going but organised, independent flatmates of any background.
Licences and tickets (as is but am updating/expanding): Heavy Rigid Truck (manual, zero demerits, upgrading to HC or to MC for road trains). NSW passenger transport authority NSW (police background checked). First Aid. High Risk Work (forklift, rigging, EWP, mobile slewing crane over 100T). Mobile plant (Excavator, Grader, Dozer, Haul Truck). White card, Work at Heights, confined space, confined/vertical rescue, etc. Steadily adding to these.
I'm about 99.8% vegetarian (since birth) and if it's convenient and non-intrusive I may occasionally batch cook myself my food when there. I happily mind my own business or work around and respect others lifestyles though: I grew up on a fairly primitive 100 acre hobby farm an hour outside a beef town, and have worked with people from all different cultural backgrounds and sports nutrition backgrounds.
In spirit (maybe often in fact), when I'm not at work I will be away camping at a Bibulman trail beach near Albany or in the Snowy mountains backcountry, exploring the Kimberlies, training to pretend I can run a 100 miler (maybe even the Larapinta 135-mile race one day or the Translantau in HK) or for the Rottnest swim or the 28k Palm-Manly one, or trying to build knowledge, skills, plans and ideas for the businesses I would like to start after I've saved up for 5-10 years to build a war chest.
I may be a dreamer and someone noone thought should or could drop out of uni but ultimately I'd like to invest in a developing fairly high risk ventures in things like:
- solar powered Australian rural or even desert manufacturing using partial process steps and production ramping to store power in process completion rather than grid or battery solutions
- non-chemical power storage (thermopiles and modular small closed circuit pumped hydro)
- Ultra low loss East-West main power lines (insulated DC high current low voltage super-conductor conduit, cobuilt with water transfer for flood/drought/bushfire mitigation, fibre optic, highway and rail infrastructure
- cheap running (lower oil grade) reliable biodiesel engines for series hybrid trucks and remote backup generators
- materials R&D into improving commercial viability and practicality of plastic alternatives (e.g. engineered processed natural fibres, lightweight high tech carbon materials, strengthened glass and other silicon based products.
Building a high demand mining or constructions skill set now is useful for some of these and for contributing to seed funding but more so an important hedge for set backs and longer term cash flow insurance, if I can make it all work.
