Hi, my name is Karen (yes, really). I’m 75 years old and my adult children tell me that sometimes I fit the stereotype associated with my name, but only occasionally :))
I'm mostly kind and caring, although I know that I can be a cranky old lady sometimes due to chronic pain and health issues. If you can ignore my cranky tone of voice on my unwell days, then we’ll get along just fine. I have people who come to help me around the house and in the garden, so there are no expectations that you assist me in these areas. I enjoy reading, watching movies, and ABC and SBS television. I love literature and the arts, am well-travelled, and interested in other cultures.
My parents are of Italian heritage. I grew up in New Guinea, north of Australia, and later moved to Brisbane for education. I have a degree majoring in Ancient History, Modern History and English Literature from the University of Queensland. I’ve travelled throughout Europe and worked in various careers, including as an English teacher in Italy and as a librarian here in Australia. Fun fact: I was the first employee at the State Library of Queensland to wear hotpants to work in the 1970’s.
You will also be sharing our home with a yellow parrot named Noddy. He speaks a little and says things like, “Hello”, “Noddy’s a pretty boy”, “Whatcha doin?’”, and “Give me a kiss”.
