We're a big artsy share-house known locally as The Fish Bowl. Located right in the middle of town, we're a stone throw away from Civic Park, the University, Market Town, and Darby St. (and the beaches aren't far off either) The building used to be Newcastle's main Library back in the 60’s, and was designed by well known local architect Brian Suters. In 2008 it was set up as a sharehouse/ hub for mural artists and Hunter St Tafe students, and has been running as one ever since.
Currently on offer is our Orange Room, which is available this January and is $187per week.
All bills are included in our rent (which covers water, electricity, and internet). While Bond is $500.
(Also, rooms are partially furnished, so we’re suited to people who travel light and don’t come with mountains of furniture or appliances :P)
Our main living areas are fairly large, with the lounge room being set up with a small stage and projector. We’re definitely open to anyone who can see themselves using the space in the future for small events or workshops (arts & crafts, meditations, intimate gigs, screenings etc)
Outdoors-wise, we have a couple of footpath gardens and a lane-way flower bed, but sadly no backyard.
As for housemates, we’re Ideally hoping to find people who’re super easy-going, kind, considerate, respectful, a bit creative, and who don’t mind the occasional low-key movie or board game night :)
(we’re also ethnically diverse, and usually try to keep a balance of that within the house)
Age-wise there's a strong preference for people over 28 as we don't want to have to school anyone on their 1st or 2nd attempt at living away from home (which isn't to say we aren't open, but it will def take some convincing...) We're also not well suited for anyone in their 50’s or older. Tried it before, didn't work. Not looking for repeats.

{{ And to be super clear on boundaries, these are things we have absolutely NO time for: Flakes - Heavy drinkers, smokers, bong-lords - Poor literacy or verbal communication skills (this is super important in a big house + we come with paperwork that needs to be read & understood) - Gambling or Substance addictions (which means no pills, powders, chemicals, or close friends/ social circles whose lifestyles revolve around these things) - Undisclosed mental health problems such as frequent Psychosis or Schizophrenia (we're a share house guys, not a ward) - Poor hygiene - Gross dudes (why do so many dudes in Newcastle suck?) - Religious fundamentalists - Obsessive Compulsive Disorders - Weirdos with no concept of personal space that are constantly compelled by unseen forces to get up in people's faces - Pearl clutchers - Karens/ Kens - Cheese boards - Volatile or extremely hectic family relationships (we don't want any drama or violence being brought to the house, or to have those patterns of behavior being re-created here) - Weird parents from the suburbs trying to guilt us into accepting their teenage kids as housemates (why is this a thing?) - Messages from blank profiles that don't tell us anything about themselves (sorry, but no creepers) }}
Please also be mindful that we get A LOT of messages, and that we try to be fair and go through people one by one in the order that they message us in. Which sometimes means due to time restraints that people miss out. (though if you’ve messaged us before, and we happen to be looking for new people in the future, it’s likely that we’ll probably try and reconnect with you)
Also what you see in the photos above is what you get.
If you come here for an inspection and suddenly realise “oh.. it really is an old library building with offices for bedrooms” and that's not something you're into, then please be respectful of our time and let us know.

So with all that said, if any of this made you pump a fist in the air and say "I'm EXACTLY who they're looking for!" then please don't hesitate to message us or ask any questions :P
We look forward to hearing from you.

As of now we're a house of five, with me (an Artist & Musician, 43), Lexie (a Cleaner, 35), James & Te'ranghi (also cleaners, 43), and Nienke, a part-time student & part-time child-care worker (40).
All of us are fairly experienced in sharehousing and capable of holding our own. And are definitely long past the point of being party animals, so you don't have to worry about the place ever being noisy or out of hand.
