Hi, I'm seeking medium to long-term accommodation while I complete my tertiary study at the University of Queensland, St. Lucia Campus. I've tried to be as detailed as I can in the below blurb. If the information about who I am and what I'm looking for matches your expectations, then flick me a message and we can meet up to make sure in person.
Bio (work):
A brief bio about me. I'm 32 years old and have been gainfully employed for about the last 10 years as a Mechanical Engineer. I've returned to study so I can pivot slightly, and build an educational foundation in information technology for a career in software engineering. The reason I've chosen to pivot is a mixed bag; it comes down to my own forecasts in market demand, and my more indulgent desire to satisfy my developing interest in this field.
Bio (life):
I don't see myself as someone who lives to work, but rather working to live. Outside of work/study I like to have a "life". I've lived a majority of my life in South East Queensland, having grown up on the Sunshine Coast to then live in Brisbane for education and work. On weekends and holidays I like to keep to a healthy lifestyle (running/diet), be socially active, and tinker around with personal technical projects. Every year or so I'll try to book in remote travel for a few weeks. I've done a few stints in Europe and Asia, and I've found it most fun to try out places that are very culturally different than what I know. Ultimately though, the place I'll be seeking will be somewhere I can live as a primary home, ideally over the next 2 to 3 years in a best case scenario.
Household preferences:
I'm am happiest when I can keep things tidy/clean, but I'm not fanatic about it, nor do I think inhouse drama is good for anyone. A household that is able to generally stay well kept is good enough for me. All I care about is the general trend and not the separate events. I will try to cook a meal every couple of nights, but will spend most weekday's out of the house. Some households cook for each other, I've no problem either way. I would also prefer housemates that treat the living-room as an actual living space, and not be bedroom ghosts. In contrast to this, I also value those who can respect personal space appropriately. If that's not you then that's totally fine, but I'm probably not a good match. I'd just like a place that's not just a bunch of strangers living silently with one another.
Rent:
Please note that I am doing this full-time and don't intend to be working on the side. Financially speaking, I have been pretty responsible over the last 10 years, and will therefore will be using my savings to supplement expenses such as rent. I'm not someone who has every really cared for spending money on luxury, have recently sold my house after a long-term breakup, all the while receiving an engineering wage; thus I have a comfortable amount of savings that I am going to be drawing from.
Conflict-Management:
It's worth mentioning conflict-management, as it's something that shouldn't be ignored when it comes to shared tenancy. I'm fairly tolerant of others and their different personalities. Whether it's a loud or funky personality, I really don't mind. I frankly kind of like weird personalities, and I can't remember the last time I became angry or upset towards someone. The only thing that gets me is respect & kindness, whether directed at me or another. It just really throws me off. I really don't care about the little things, but if there is an issue, I prefer a conflict-management policy of honest & direct conversation. Polite and upfront conversation is just my way. I've found that issues/concerns shouldn't be allowed to silently fester over time. This is just how I preference things though, I don't expect others to value the things I do. I will adapt to whatever works best for whomever.
