Flatmates has recently implemented some changes on our platform to better protect your privacy. This might mean your property listing looks a little different, but never fear! People will still be able to find you and your listing like normal.

Wondering why we made this change? Check out our FAQs below to find what you’re looking for.

What changes have you made?
The Flatmates team has made the decision to obfuscate the street names on property listings and to expand a property’s location radius on our maps. Where property listings used to state their street name and suburb (for example, Chapel Street, South Yarra), property listings now will state the suburb and the city of that location (eg. South Yarra, Melbourne). We will soon be adding a tool tip to ask members to refrain from uploading images of the front of their home, to further protect their privacy.

Why did you do this?
At Flatmates.com.au, we’re always striving to be the best share accommodation platform that we can be, whilst also protecting our members’ privacy. As most properties on our platform are occupied, we want members to be able to share their full address with members that they trust, when they are ready. This is why we now only display a property’s suburb, rather than the street name. We have also received feedback from members with property listings that this is something they would like to see on the platform.

When we look at other market leaders in the share accommodation or short-term accommodation space, they also obfuscate the full address of a property until a time that the listing owner is ready to share this.

I’m a paid member and I want my full address shown
All members on Flatmates.com.au are treated equally, whether they have upgraded or remain on our Free Plan. We’re always striving to provide the best share accommodation platform that we can, whilst also protecting our members’ privacy. As most properties on our platform are occupied, we want members to be able to share their full address with members that they trust, when they are ready. This is why we now only display a property’s suburb, rather than the street name.

How will I know where a house is located?
The map shown at the bottom of property listings will give you a general idea of where the property is situated. If you would like to know the full address of a property, you can contact the lister via our messaging service. Be aware that some members may not wish to share their full address with you until they know more about you.

Best practise: To protect your privacy, steer clear of uploading images of the front of your home.
