About the property

This home really suits someone who likes the out of doors and a peaceful friendly living environment. We are only a few houses away from O'Connor ridge and walking/riding tracks that extend through to Black Mountain and the Aranda Bushland.

The house has a light-filled living/dining room with views over the treetops to the mountains. There are front and rear balconies positioned to take advantage of the views each with outdoor dining (or just relaxing) options.

The house is fully furnished. Housemates are welcome to make use of the many books and board games. The available bedroom has a queen bed, a built-in wardrobe and desk. All kitchen equipment is provided along with doonas and blankets on request.

The house was given an EER of 1 when it was purchased in 2006. Since then, insulation has been added to the ceiling and walls; most downstairs windows have been double-glazed and most windows have honeycomb blinds or lined curtains. The property complies with the minimum ceiling insulation standard.

The garden is large, organic, and aspires to be a food forest. It contains many fruit trees, support plants, herbs and a large vegetable area.

We are a 10 minute walk to the Lyneham shops, and a 6 min walk to buses into the city or ANU. To drive to the city takes 5-10 minutes and we are an easy bike ride to the ANU, City, the AIS and the University of Canberra. We have undercover shelter for bikes.

About the flatmates

We are looking for 2 friendly environment loving people to share our home and food forest in the making.

The owner, a retired human rights activist, who enjoys bushwalking, gardening, reading and hanging out with her grandchildren will soon be moving into the upstairs bedroom and study and will share the downstairs living spaces.

Also currently sharing the house is a PhD entomology student who enjoys gardening and cooking.

In the 13 years that the house has been a share house it has been home to more than 40 people from at least 9 different countries. Some have stayed for 6 months, others for 7 years. We aim to be a welcoming and respectful household.

We live independent lives but enjoy sharing conversation, the occasional meal or board game and the benefits of our home’s many outdoor spaces including the food and herbs produced. Cleaning is shared and all contribute to maintaining the garden. Dogs associated with the owner's family or friends occasionally stay with her at the property.

Smoking is not permitted.

If we sound like a home that would suit you, please include in your message some info about yourself and we'll be in touch.
