Hi, I’m Andrew!

I’m 29 and moving over from Belfast, Northern Ireland on a Working Holiday Visa. I’ll be starting my Australian adventure in Melbourne and I’m looking for a sociable house to call home.

I’ve worked in hospitality for over 12 years, so I’m naturally a pretty social person and enjoy surrounding myself with like-minded people. While I completely appreciate everyone needs their own space and downtime, I’m hoping to find a house where people genuinely enjoy spending time together. Whether that’s cooking dinner, grabbing a coffee, heading to the pub, watching the footy, planning the occasional weekend adventure, or even jumping online for a few games, that’s exactly the kind of environment I’d love to be part of.

One of the biggest reasons I’m moving to Australia is to experience the culture properly, so it’d be amazing to live with people who can introduce me to their favourite places and local traditions. Hopefully, I’ll not only find a great place to live but also make some genuine friendships along the way.

Outside of work, I enjoy good coffee, discovering new bars and restaurants, travelling, live sport and getting outdoors. I’m equally happy exploring somewhere new as I am sitting down to a great film or blocking out a weekend to binge the latest series everyone’s talking about.

Back home I play football and rugby, and I used to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (I've also been known to hit a few 180's in the darts). One of the things I’m most excited about is getting into AFL - learning the game, watching plenty of matches, and maybe even having a kick around if the opportunity comes up.

Music is another big passion of mine. Indie is usually what’s playing, and Royel Otis have been my favourite band for the last couple of years - seeing them headline at Rolling Sets Festival is definitely on the bucket list.

I’m also a casual gamer, but it’s definitely more about the social side than sitting in my room all day. Whether it’s a few Search & Destroy games on Call of Duty, FIFA Pro Clubs or eventually GTA VI, I’d happily jump on if the house has a bit of a gaming crew.

One thing I’d like to mention because I think it’s important to be upfront: I currently smoke (always outdoors), although I’m hoping to quit before I move over - the price of cigarettes in Australia has definitely given me the motivation! If I haven’t quite managed it by then, I’d just be looking for a house that’s comfortable with outdoor smoking. I also work in hospitality, so there’ll occasionally be late finishes, but I’ll always do my best to come home quietly. On the flip side, I can sleep through just about anything, so you won’t need to tiptoe around me if you’re up before I am.

Finally, one thing that probably sums me up quite well: while I definitely enjoy my own downtime, please don’t mistake a closed bedroom door for me wanting to be left alone. If you’re heading to the pub, grabbing a coffee, going for a walk, hitting the beach or just doing something spontaneous, I’d always appreciate a knock on the door. I’d much rather be invited and not be free than not be asked at all.

Ultimately, I’m hoping to find more than just a room - I want to find a house that feels like home while I make the most of this adventure.
