My name's Badger Jade Humphreys. I'm a full-time illustrative fine art painter, and a fiction author, whose painting content comes mainly from said fiction. I've always been described as introverted, polite, quiet and shy, until you get to know me -- then you'll find that I have a lot of opinions worth talking about, a sense of humour that knows no bounds, and that I love lively conversation more than anything (movies might be the easiest starting point, I guess). I'm also a transwoman, and growing up in South Australia in the 1990s and 2000s terrified me -- in this time, I typically gave a lot more kindness than I received, which explains my withdrawn exterior. Also, I'm of Scottish descent, and have never belonged in a place this hot! But as long as I'm indoors with something to drink, I get along with anybody. In SA, my 15-year art practice has always been praised yet unprofitable, but as of late 2025, new funding is allowing me to finally transform this practice into a thriving business. This likely means leaving SA soon, but not just yet. Right now, my traditional paintings are all in storage, ready to be moved interstate, and until that happens I'm happy to be focusing on my digital painting, which all happens on my one computer screen and is therefore much easier to fit into the single-room in a share-house that I currently seek. I'm generally pretty quiet and keep to myself, my working life has taught me much about respecting other peoples space. I enjoy cooking and am not picky about food in general, except seafood which I view with suspicion and kiwi fruit, to which I am allergic! Given my past, I am not big on either crowds or parties, and my idea of a pleasant evening is a small dinner party with interesting people and a cheeky bottle of red. My last residence I lived in for 12 years until it was sold out from under me... I guess I'm just one of the many?
