James Roseler, the creative force behind Renaissance Funk, is an Australian artist born in 1973. Residing in Eumundi on the Sunshine Coast, James embodies a vibrant blend of artistic influences that reflect the rich tapestry of his experiences. From a young age, James was captivated by drawing, a passion that has driven him throughout his life. A self-taught artist, he has honed his craft over the years, exhibiting his work along the east coast of Australia, from North Queensland to Sydney and Melbourne. Renaissance Funk represents the culmination of James's artistic journey, drawing inspiration from past art studios, co-ops, and ventures, including poetry societies and live-in art spaces. His early career saw him painting and selling art at local markets, where humorous signs like “soon to be dead artist” and “need money for wine” became a part of his unique charm. James's artistic evolution includes time spent in two live-in art studios: Surranderd Studio and his own Vagabond Art Studio. As he transitioned into the commercial art world, he embraced roles as an illustrator and designer, creating fine art, illustrations, and even delving into web design. Beyond visual art, James is passionate about poetry, currently working on a series of anthologies and children’s books, combining his love for writing with his artistic talents. With over twenty years of experience, James continues to thrive as a vagabond artist, dedicated to exploring and expressing the depths of human creativity through the lens of Renaissance Funk.
