Heya! I've just completed my postgraduate at UNSW, and am a UX/UI Designer! I am interested in a short-term place for now (1-3 months). I am used to living with different people/internationals, and I am generally really chill and easygoing. I love keeping my living spaces in order, so I'll definitely be a great addition to your household ;) Hmu if you think I'm a good fit :)

Looking for - To share a house or flat with small number of housemates, any color/nationality welcome, I am used to living with people of all colors as we believe in integrated living in America :) - Home friendly to people with mild asthma (i.e. low level of dust, I have allergy induced asthma) - No cockroaches (besides dust, cockroaches are the only other thing I am actually clinically allergic to) - At least partially furnished (minimum fridge in kitchen and and bed in bedroom) - Air conditioned bedroom (please do not tell me to adjust to the climate here and forego wanting AC, it is not going to happen, I have landed in the hospital multiple times before from trying to sleep in no AC while living in hot countries and getting asthma attacks, I am somebody who is more comfortable in winter weather) - If AC is not inverter type within room, please let me know if it is possible to restrict the central AC to certain parts of the flat/house, to save on electricity bills. - Big bedroom with big closet - Laundry washing machine - STORAGE STORAGE STORAGE - I am expecting 3 cubic meters of shipment to arrive from US in February, which includes an armchair, two side tables, foldable shelves and a few small (size table sized ottomans), five large suitcases and a bunch of cartons. The contents of the cartons with mostly go in the kitchen and shelves within my room, and some stuff for utility type area. The content of the suitcases are clothes--I plan on switching my wardrobe content around to suit the season, but I will need storage space for about 5 large suitcases somewhere. Sorry, you must think I am crazy bringing all this stuff from the US. But I don't have a permanent home there and it was hard enough downsizing from my 200 sq meters house in the US, and I think being able to go from 200 sq meter to almost 4 sq meter total worth of content is pretty impressive in itself... Would love but not required: - Ensuite - TV provided - Laundry dryer A little bit about me: Hi I am Mahmuda and I just arrived in the great land of Oz on the 18th of November from the US (Washington DC). I am presently staying at an AirBnB in Zetland, but looking for a more permanent rental to move to. I spent a good chunk of my 20s doing space science research at NASA, which helped me develop my passion for interdisciplinary space science research. I got my PhD few months ago and moved here to (hopefully) start an awesome postdoctoral job at UNSW. I expect to be away every few weeks to take a trip to the Anglo-Australian telescope while there. Due to my time in Japan, I love anime and speak fluent Japanese. But since I have spent my adult life in the upper East Coast of US, I am surrounded by diversity here, and thus consider myself to be a highly multi-cultural being. That being said, this will actually be my first time in the southern hemisphere. I want to live with housemates as a) I am used to living with very resourceful housemates now, b) as someone new to a country with no family and friends, I need to make my own family and friends and c) I am highly allergic to dust and cockroaches (roaches don't exist where I live in the US - we blast our ACs here...) so I need to live with someone who will mutually share a responsibility of keeping the place clean with me. I am looking for a place with air conditioning available during the summer and since I won't have a car, I am looking to live close to UNSW campus, preferably east of it due to not wanting to live in the inner city. Also I am willing to pay max up to $400 per week only if that amount include utilities. I will get paid pretty well at my new job but I have student loans to pay in the US (so do most people who get higher education degrees in the US), so I have to spend my money pretty conservatively while in Australia.... Besides roaches and summer air conditioning, the other thing I am picky about is smoking. In the US, we have strict smoking control, which is great for someone like me who suffers from asthma. I hear that kind of control is not a thing in Australia....I am fine living with smokers, as long as the smoking happens outside the house. I also need a big closet. I realize I cannot get the giant walk in closets I am used to in US, but I can do with a relatively large closet probably. My appointment at UNSW will last at least 2.5 years so if all works out between us, I will be happy to live at your place for the full duration. On the other hand, while I indicate I am looking for a place for at least 12 months, I am okay just starting up with a 6 month deal. I understand I am new to the country and things may not work out at my first place for whatever reason. I am also not a party animal, I prefer doing the whole "came back from hard day of work let's socialize a little and share how your/my day was" thing, but I also generally keep to myself. Grew up as an only child in a foreign country so definitely not a needy person here. Lastly, I love decorating and I can pretty much talk about anything and have gotten along with every respectful housemate I have had in my lifetime (I have had over 20 housemates in the past 8 years alone due to the place I lived for over 5 years having a lot of short term dwellers).
