Hi! I'm Lara, an Australian ecologist who's moving to Cairns from Brissie to study my PhD in cassowaries. Unsurprisingly, I love nature and wildlife and can't wait to explore the hiking trails around Cairns and to take my diving licence for a spin. I love camping, kayaking (though probs not in most waterways up there!), bird watching, and just overall being immersed in the tropics. I'm also very much a homebody, where I enjoy baking and curling up on the couch for movie nights.
I'm wanting to avoid the whole 'humans co-inhabiting a house for financial reasons' vibe at all costs, and instead I'd love to cultivate a caring, healthy environment where I can spend some time with my housemates, even if it's just a quick kitchen debrief on how our days were. I'm a social introvert, so I'm quite adept at striking the balance between needing some downtime to recharge my batteries and being in the company of others.
After spending a year backpacking through South America, I'm looking for stability with my living situation and I'm keen to settle down into a house long-term (hopefully the duration of my PhD). I'm therefore hoping to team-up with one or two other housemates to sign the lease on a property, and that they're also thinking more long-term (although not a deal-breaker if we're the right vibe).
Some general housemate facts about me are: I have 2 years' rental history (and longer experience sharing spaces with others), I don't have pets or children, I'm a non-smoker and I'm an ally of the Queer community. I'm open to living in any suburb as long as it has a good feel about it, and it's not ages away from the JCU Nguma-bada Campus. I have a flexible moving date, but would ideally like to be settled a couple of months before starting my PhD mid-year.
