$400/week25-28 year old woman and man

Hi there! Our names are Rowell and Izzy and we are looking for our next housemate/s! Amidst this lovely rental crisis we have unfortunately been served a 60 day eviction notice from our current home which has led to the amicable splitting up of our current group of housemates and thus we are forced back out into the big wide world to find a new place to call home, and a new person (or two) to call it home with. About us: Izzy (she/her) 25 Interests include gaming (PC, board games and TTRPGS), reading (mostly fantasy at the moment!), gardening, music, dog training, making art, walking/hiking and general consumption of media. Also, neurodivergent, disabled/chronically ill and a medicinal cannabis user. I spend most of my time being a dog parent to Korra, an almost 2 year-old labradoodle who is my assistance dog. Given all the work that goes into being an assistance dog, Korra is already well trained and incredibly easy to live with (our current housemates are happy to provide references on what a great housemate she is!). She doesn't shed or destroy anything in the house and her worst behaviors are an alert bark or two at the doorbell or sneaking the occasional affectionate ear nibble or face lick. Her hobbies include chasing a hose around the backyard or a game of frisbee at the park. She is a bit aloof with strangers but once she warms up she is a sweetheart and gets along well with everyone in the house and will greet you at the door with happy wookie noises and a toy in her mouth. Rowell (he/him) 28 Rowell works from home in a government job but occasionally has to make the trek into the office. He also likes playing tabletop rpgs, board games and videogames and has recently delved deep into the Red Dead Redemption RP scene. He’s an avid film photographer and enjoys going out with friends in the board gaming and table top card gaming scenes as well. He’s quite social but also enjoys time to himself and being a hermit in his own space. As a household: We already possess most of the trappings that make up a home like a couch, coffee table, TV, kitchen table and chairs, washing machine and dryer, fridges and most of the kitchen bits and bobs and appliances you need. Some of these we’d be happy to upgrade if a potential housemate has something better but for the most part we’re set with the basics. BYO bedroom furniture. Thanks to Izzy’s NDIS plan we also have a cleaning service that usually comes once a fortnight and gardeners that take care of the basics like keeping a yard tidy and mowed. We also have a robot vacuum! What we’re looking for in housemates: We are looking for like minded people who share our core values, have fairly left leaning views, care about the environment and are generally open-minded and tolerant. Ableists, racists, sexists and bigots of all kinds need not apply. People who know the struggle of the current housing market are also a big plus. We’d love someone who is reasonably clean and tidy and if not naturally so, open to a cleaning schedule. We appreciate our home as primarily a place of rest and relaxation and would appreciate someone who feels similarly, although we don’t mind people that are social either as long as they know how to respect when others need space to recharge. We have no issues with having friends over or running the occasional board game night, dinner or get together but we definitely are not a big party house. We’d also love someone with an interest in our shared hobbies - board and video gamers, RPGers, gardeners/plant lovers, this is the household for you! Potential housemates must also love dogs, however we are hoping to keep this as a single pet household but might consider a cat with the right person (Korra is a sweet and gentle soul but has never lived with a cat before and this would take some training and effort to make work). We would also have a preference for someone who is hoping to put down long term roots in a new house and really make it a home as we grow tired of the housemate shuffle and definitely can't bear the thought of moving again after this for a long time. What we’re looking for in a house: Due to the nature of Izzy’s disabilities we do have a few non-negotiables we’re looking for in a house that include things like a dishwasher, air-conditioning, a single story place that is as wheelchair accessible as possible and has at least a small yard and patch of grass for Korra. Izzy also needs at least a medium to large sized room to accommodate her and Korra. We’d also love things like an extendable shower head for accessibility, on site parking for at least Izzys car, a nice undercover outdoor area to relax in, space for a veggie patch and some kind of shed or storage space. Together our budget is $400/w and we are hoping for other housemates in roughly the same range or slightly above to end up in a place around a max of 600-650 a week if a 3 bedroom or 800-850 a week if a 4 bedroom, although we’d love to end up in a suitable place under budget! Our final date of eviction from our current home is the 28th of May but we’d love to get out of here and settle into a new home as soon as possible. Areas we’re ideally looking in: Our current home is in Coburg and we very much love and have settled into the north side and ideally hope to stay here. From the looks of things we are being priced out of Coburg and anywhere further inwards but we are looking in areas in loosely a 15km radius from where we are currently such as Coburg, Coburg North, Preston, Pascoe Vale, Pascoe Vale South, Glenroy, Hadfield, Oak Park, Reservoir, Brunswick, Brunswick West, Essendon, Essendon West, Moonee Ponds, Avondale Heights, Maribyrnong, Northcote, Thornbury, Bellfield, Heidelberg West, Heidelberg Heights, Macleod, Rosanna, or at a stretch Balwyn, Balwyn North, Footscray, Seddon, Yarraville etc. We already have a spreadsheet going with a bunch of houses we’re interested in and would be keen to get inspecting and applying, so if the above sounds good to you and you’d like to join us in the house hunt, please send us a message to arrange a time to chat and/or come and meet us in our current place!
