Hello, my name is Peter, an Aussie, and I’m looking for some place to call ‘home’ in Australia (just for myself). Preferred locations northside or north-west Sydney or Gosford.
Pictured here with my wife and mother-in-law, taken recently during my family farewell dinner in Thailand. They both miss me, as I also miss them. Happily married for near 10 years, for almost that entire period my wife and I were living together, as a normal couple, in one of the remote North-East Thailand provinces.
Then recently (2024), the Australian Government informed me that if I wish to receive the Age Pension (which I do need), I must return to be a permanent Australian resident! :(
So, I am now back in Australia, permanently, a pensioner, and have been avoiding homelessness by living at a backpacker’s hostel for the past 10 months. While immensely grateful for it ‘being there’ and for keeping me from having to sleep on the streets, long-term life at a backpacker’s hostel does have its challenges.
Currently located on the NSW Central Coast, but would prefer to be in Sydney or some place near (eg Gosford) with easy access to Sydney by train. Given that I don’t have a car in Australia, nor a driver’s licence (but have both in Thailand!), I do need to be located close to public transport, with fairly convenient access to services/shops etc.
** Ideally, I would prefer to rent a room in a home where the owner is actually the occupant (rather than a non-owner-occupied share house). **
I consider myself as a ‘nice-normal’ considerate and compassionate person, and enjoy being around people with similar mindsets. As a tenant, I’m pretty darn good. I look after the place as though it was my own, and always pay rent on time (both verifiable). I do enjoy a drink in moderation, but am not an alcoholic. I definitely don’t do drugs, nor do I want to be around people who do. I do smoke, but never inside (that would be too gross!).
My interests in retirement continue to be music (I play guitar & have previously done some music production videos), photography (previous career as a pro-commercial/advertising photographer, now do street photography etc), and art (if only I had a small workspace).
