I'm Maddi (they/them - 28yo). I'd describe myself as a very positive and easy-going person with a playful sense of humour. A day without laughter is a day wasted! I've been house sharing since I was 18. Currently living with 4 others and it's been great as we're all super respectful of each other, engage in open conversations when something's not quite right, and all clean up after ourselves as we go. Alas, our landlord is selling so it's time to find my next home!
My hobbies and interests:
I simply MUST have a coffee every morning (bonus points if you have an espresso machine!!) I enjoy guitar, piano, reading, beautifully directed films, all things games (boardgames + PS5 + absolutely froth a game of pool), Sunday hikes, choir, social beach volleyball, football, and the occasional book club run by my partner. I also get a lot of enjoyment out of fixing things so pretty handy around the house!
Day-to-day:
Typically out of the house 3-4 days/week.
I'm currently studying a full time bachelor of psychology online at home. I'm a qualified youth worker of 5+ years, working toward a career as a child psychologist.
I currently work 1-2 days/week, and also receive Austudy payments so making rent + bills is no issue.
I definitely require my solo down time to maintain equilibrium but that's not to say I don't love hanging out and having a yarn + glass of vino with housemates 😊
I tend to stay at my partner's house on the weekends and she will occasionally stay at mine a couple times a month.
My future home:
- up to $220/week rent
- Anywhere from Abbotsford to Coburg
- Can move any time in January, though the closer to my lease-end date the better! (21 Jan)
I would really love to join a respectful, adult household that feels like a family. Currently my housemates and I are like ships in the night and due to our varying schedules, we all cook our own meals (which I think is crazy and expensive!). I'm big on food and would love to have a rotating roster where each person cooks for the house! Doesn't have to be every night but maybe one meal a week each :)
Stuff that's important to me:
-clean communal areas. I clean and tidy up after myself, always leaving communal areas how I found them so it's nice for the next person to use. I expect the same from my housemates :)
-open and respectful communication. My experience in the youth sector has honed my emotional intelligence, communication skills, and self-awareness. This extends to how I operate in a share house - I'm a firm believer that any issue can be resolved with a conversation! If something is on your mind, lets talk about it openly and find a solution that suits everyone rather than have any resentment build!
-environmentally conscious + eco-friendly household. More than happy to share knowledge on recycling if you're not 100% confident yet - it's important that everyone does their bit to care for our planet when they can :) ps. I know a service that collects and *actually* recycles soft plastics (costs about $50/month)
-If you don't believe in First Nations, LGBTQIA+, sex worker, or women's rights, we're probably not compatible as housemates. I'm pro-Palestine and anti-war/violence.
-not looking for a party house. Occasional parties for birthdays etc are obviously welcome! and more than happy for housemates to have loved ones over for dinner/boardgames/movies as often as they'd like - though I really appreciate a heads up!
-natural light in my bedroom (keeps my dopamine flowing haha)
-decent WiFi to accommodate my online lectures + seminars
