I'm Xan from Namoo Edu, a Sydney-based education company that has been placing South Korean students with local families since 2004. We work with 80+ host families across Sydney and support both hosts and students throughout the entire stay.
About our students
Year 12 graduates, aged 17–18, here on 4–12 week TAFE programs funded by the South Korean government. They study English, complete vocational courses, and finish with 2–4 weeks of real work experience. Students are interviewed and vetted before arrival. Programs run July to December.

Students
- Students are expected to clean up after themselves around the home and tidy their bedrooms at least twice a week, teachers check in regularly via FaceTime.
- Students can do their own laundry if the host prefers.
- Students have curfews in place, and well-behaved students with good study results and positive host feedback can earn later curfews (up to 7pm, or 8pm on Thursdays).
- Students are not allowed to drink, smoke, or party.
💡 New host tip
Best room setups: a high metal bed frame with under-bed storage, or sturdy bunk beds. Both keep the floor clear and give students somewhere to store their suitcases.
About the program
Our students are out early and home in the evening, pretty low maintenance around the house!
The program runs in 3 phases:
Phase 1: English Classes at TAFE Ultimo. Students need to be there by 8am and are home by 3–5pm
Phase 2: Vocational Classes at TAFE. Students specialise in different trades (hospitality, cooking, baking, hairdressing, welding etc.) and follow their own timetable as full-time students, home by 5–6pm
Phase 3: Work Experience at various workplaces across Sydney. All students finish by 5pm and are home by 5–6pm
Not all groups do all three phases. Program length varies from 4–12 weeks depending on the group.
On weekends
Students take part in guided weekend missions with their roommate, think Amazing Race style but relaxed! They explore Sydney's local neighbourhoods, museums, galleries, and trending spots together.
