My name's Badger Jade Humphreys. I'm a full-time illustrative fine art painter, and a fiction author, whose painting content comes mainly from said fiction. I've always been described as introverted, polite, quiet and shy, until you get to know me -- then you'll find that I have a lot of opinions worth talking about, a sense of humour that knows no bounds, and that I love lively conversation more than anything (movies might be the easiest starting point, I guess). I'm also a transwoman, and growing up in South Australia in the 1990s and 2000s terrified me -- in this time, I typically gave a lot more kindness than I received, which explains my withdrawn exterior. Also, I'm of Scottish descent, and have never belonged anywhere near as hot as SA! But as long as I'm indoors with something to drink, I get along with anybody. In SA, my 15-year art practice has always been praised yet unprofitable, but as of late 2025, a lot of new private funding is allowing me to finally transform this practice into a thriving business.
My business entails moving both myself and art practice to the Melbourne inner city area. Right now in SA, my traditional painting setup is all locked away in a storage unit, and I’ve been living in one bedroom of a shared flat, which has been great for all my writing and digital art. But as of now (late Feb 2026), what I’m ideally seeking in Melbourne is to rent a studio apartment on my own, just large enough to accomodate both my digital and traditional painting practice (the latter is not at all messy, by the way, and has never harmed a property in the slightest). This would save me a small fortune, as it would render both a storage unit or another painting location unnecessary for the foreseeable future. As said, it’s probably easiest for me to rent such an apartment on my own, unless of course there’s a potential flatmate out there who thinks they could accomodate these art needs of mine!
That just about covers my intentions, I think.
